History

History

Tower Hill State Park preserves the site of Fort Blue Mounds, a military outpost constructed in the early 1830s during the Black Hawk War era. The fort served as a protective stronghold for settlers in the region and played a role in Wisconsin’s early territorial history.

Though the original structures no longer stand, interpretive markers and the park’s commanding location help visitors imagine the strategic importance of the hilltop. Preservation of the site reflects the park’s role as both a scenic overlook and a place of historical reflection.
