Blue Mounds State Park is located in southwestern Minnesota near the town of Luverne and is known for its dramatic prairie landscape and striking Sioux quartzite cliffs. The park offers a rare glimpse of Minnesota’s western prairie heritage, combining open grasslands, rocky outcrops, and expansive views.

The park’s landscape is shaped by ancient Sioux quartzite, forming sheer cliff faces and rugged ridgelines that rise above the surrounding prairie. Native tallgrass prairie covers much of the park, dotted with wildflowers and grasses that change color with the seasons. Bison graze within a fenced enclosure, adding to the park’s distinctive prairie character.

Blue Mounds State Park features a network of hiking trails that traverse prairie uplands, descend into wooded areas, and follow the base of the quartzite cliffs.
