History

The park is named in honor of Leopold and Simon Pokagon, leaders of the Potawatomi people who once lived in the region. Established in 1927, Pokagon State Park has grown into one of Indiana’s flagship state parks, balancing recreation, conservation, and cultural recognition. The Potawatomi Inn stands as a historic centerpiece within the park.
