The park’s landscape is defined by steep limestone bluffs, forested hillsides, and narrow valleys carved by the Cedar River and its tributaries. Dense hardwood forests blanket much of the terrain, creating shaded ravines and elevated overlooks that contrast with the open river corridor below.

Palisades-Kepler State Park features a challenging trail system that climbs ridges, descends into wooded hollows, and follows sections of the river valley. History

The park was developed during the 1930s with substantial contributions from the Civilian Conservation Corps. CCC-built stone stairways, shelters, and other structures remain visible throughout the park, adding historic character and preserving early conservation-era craftsmanship.
